Some of you may be old enough to remember as kids, buying a roll or two of red, white and blue crepe paper with which we decorated our bikes and rode along side the marchers in the Memorial Day Parade. At that time the Day was called Decoration Day because that was the day when the graves of the Veterans were were decorated with flowers. Congress declared Memorial Day a National holiday in 1971 although in the South it is still called Decoration Day and has different dates. It is also the unofficial start to summer.Childhood symbol of unaffected youth, Webster Road, Ferrisburgh Vermont 08/01/2008
